6 West End shows coming to the Ipswich Regent Theater

We are very lucky in Ipswich to have some of the best West End and Broadway shows at the Regent Theatre.

Here are five musicals that will bring the glitz and glamor of the West End to the city.

Chicago

The award-winning Chicago will come to Ipswich, bringing Jazz Age glamor to the city.

A satire of the criminal justice system and famous criminals, the play features two female prisoners in desperate competition to extract as much glory as possible from their murders.

Featuring 24 of Queen’s greatest hits, Ben Elton’s We Will Rock You ran for twelve years on the West End and won the Laurence Olivier Award for most popular show with audiences.

The play is set in a distant dystopia following a group of bohemians in a world where everyone acts, dresses and thinks the same.

The Show Cher is a Tony award-winning Broadway musical that tells the early life story of pop megastar Cher.

Featuring her hit songs including Bang Bang, Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves and Believe, the play is directed by theater legend Arlene Phillips and features choreography by star Oti Mabuse.

Strictly Ballroom: the musical

Carryover from November last year, Strictly Ballroom will feature former Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton.

He will lead a group of more than 20 world-class artists to choreography by judge Strictly Craig Revell Horwood.

Telling the story of the frustrated son of a family of ballroom dancers struggling with a traditionalist pageant judge who views his steps as not being “strictly ballroom,” the play is a whirlwind of dancing, music and theatre.

Inspired by classic soul and rock and roll music, The Commitments follows the story of a group of unemployed Irish youths who start a soul music band.

The show will feature songs such as The Rolling Stones Satisfaction, Think by Aretha Franklin and Mustang Sally by Mack Rice.

Based on the award-winning film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act was a smash hit on Broadway and in the West End, and now it’s launching a second UK tour.

The play tells the story of disco diva Deloris who sees her gangster boyfriend commit murder and is forced to flee into witness protection and hide among the nuns of a run-down convent in San Fransisco.
