Just one more thing for Edith L. Murway-Traina and her friends to celebrate as she celebrates her 100th birthday on Sunday.
Hillsborough County, Florida (August 6, 2021) – Edith Traina has never let a little thing like age keep her from having fun and staying active, whether that’s dancing, socializing with friends at the Jackson Springs Community Center, or winning a Guinness World Record as the oldest female competition powerlifter.
Guinness World Records announced this week that Edith’s powerlifting prowess earned the great-great-grandmother a 2022 Guinness World Records listing. Her last powerlifting competition was in 2019 at the age of of 98 years and 94 days. After a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she resumes training for her next competition.
Edith’s spirit of adventure and healthy lifestyle will be recognized on Sunday August 8 at a celebration at the Jackson Springs Community Center for her 100e birthday. Edith, a former line dance teacher at the community center, is so popular that the dance studio is named after her, and it was there that she first rose to prominence as a 90-year-old powerlifting.
Edith remains active and social as she prepares to celebrate her entry into the Centennial Club. Those at the celebration will share memories, photos and good times with Edith and are encouraged to wear purple, her favorite color.
The celebration will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jackson Springs Community Center, 8620 Jackson Springs Rd., Tampa, FL 33615.
