John Whaite to make Strictly Come Dancing history as first-ever all-male couple


Former Bake Off winner confirmed for the show

Following the announcement that Tom Fletcher, Robert Webb and AJ Odudu will participate in the 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing, the bosses unveiled this morning (Thursday August 5) another famous face, in the form of famous baker John Whaite!

John, who won the third round of The Great British Bake Off in 2012, was unveiled on social media this morning, with a tweet from the official Strictly account: “Rum baba to Rumba, all stand up for the baker star and now future star #Strictly John Whaite! ‘. (sic)

Speaking about his appointment on the show, John confirmed he was set to make history by being half of the very first all-male partnership.

He said: “I am so grateful, excited and nervous to join the Strictly 2021 family. I have been wearing sequins and jazzy outfits since I was three years old and can’t wait to get started, full blast, on the. most glamorous dance floor in the world.

“What’s more exciting for me is that I’m going to be half of the first all-male partnership, which is a big step forward in representation and inclusion. No matter who I’m paired with, I am. hope they’re up for a challenge because I want our routines to include lots of spectacular lifts! ”

While it has not yet been confirmed which professional dancer will be paired with John, this year’s pros were revealed earlier in the year, with four new faces joining the lineup.
