The KCAC Commissioner’s Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of excellence in athletics representing 21 championships. Member institutions can earn points for their ranking of each varsity team in these 21 officially recognized conference sports.

Friends and Kansas Wesleyan University tied for first in the Commissioners Cup standings after the 2021 fall sports season, but the Falcons had a strong winter season and took sole possession of the top spot in the standings. The Falcons won two championships during the winter season, with the Friends women’s indoor track team and competitive cheer team winning conference titles. A second-place finish in indoor men’s athletics also boosted the team in the standings, as well as a top-four finish in the regular season by the women’s basketball team.

The Coyotes were able to hold on to second place with strong results from their men’s and women’s basketball teams in the final regular season standings (both tied for fifth in their respective standings), top-five in competition and in competitive dance, and their men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished near the middle of the pack at the indoor track and field championships.

Saint Mary completes the top three of the ranking since the beginning of the year. The Spiers were in fourth place after the fall sports season, but overtook Tabor in the standings after a very successful winter sports season. The top three finishes in Men’s Indoor Track and Field (first), Women’s Indoor Track and Field (second) and Men’s Wrestling (third) propelled the Spires to the standings, along with a fourth-place finish in competition.

About the Commissioner’s Cup

In an effort to further recognize the achievements of its student-athletes and member institutions, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference has created an award for the institution that achieves the best performance during the fall, winter and athletic seasons. of spring. The KCAC Commissioner’s Cup will be awarded annually as a symbol of excellence in athletics representing 21 championships. Member institutions can earn points for their ranking of each varsity team in these 21 officially recognized conference sports.

Points are awarded based on the end of the regular season for football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s softball and tennis. In Competitive Cheering, Competitive Dance, Cross Country, Men’s Wrestling, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track and Field, conference championship meet results will determine point values. To be a conference sport, six member institutions must compete in the sport at the college level.

Teams that finish in first place will be awarded a maximum number of points equivalent to the total number of teams competing in that respective sport. Scoring of points will continue in reverse order until the last-placed team has been awarded the corresponding point value (for example, if a sport has only seven teams, point values will be awarded from from the maximum of 7 to 1). When two or more teams are tied for final standings in the conference standings, each team will be assigned the respective standings average. For example, if three teams are tied for second place in a sport with 11 teams, those three teams will receive the score of nine points because those three teams are in second (10 points), third (9 points), and fourth (8 points) positions in the standings. The sum of these three positions (27 points) divided by the three teams gives an average score of nine points for each of the teams.
