Unilorin organizes a “hybrid” convocation on October 15

The University of Ilorin has announced that it will hold its first hybrid convocation starting October 15.

This is contained in a statement released by the university’s director of general affairs, Kunle Akogun, on Sunday in Ilorin.

Akogun explained that this will be the institution’s 36th convening ceremony which will be held in the main auditorium.

According to him, the convocation program will begin on October 15, with a special Juma’at service at the University’s central mosque at 1:30 p.m.

He said this would be followed on Oct. 17 by an interfaith church service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on the main campus at 9:00 a.m.

Akogun said the main events of the ceremony will officially begin on October 18, with a press briefing by the vice-chancellor at the university auditorium at 10 a.m.

It will be followed on October 21 by the convocation piece, titled ‘Aadoye’ (No Secret Anywhere – A South African Dance Performance) by Steve James, choreographed by Felix Akinsipe, at the Performing Arts Theater in the institution at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

“This year’s convocation will take place on October 22 and will be delivered by a distinguished jurist, Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN), titled“ Higher Education and the Future of Nigeria ”.

“The grand finale will take place on Saturday, October 23, with the convocation for the presentation of awards, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas from the 15 faculties and postgraduate schools,” he said.

He said attendance at the main convocation event on October 23 would be limited to only graduates with an honors degree, award winners and doctorate holders.

Akogun stressed that “therefore, entry into the main auditorium will be strictly by invitation cards.”

He noted that dignitaries expected to honor the event include visitor to the university, President Muhammadu Buhari; the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu; and the Chancellor of the University, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, among others.
